I also got my first tattoos! That are a pair of nautical sparrows, and stand for the miles I’ve traveled on a ship. I had one done in a watercolor style, and the other done in the traditional sailor Jerry style, both in Rota, Spain.

First tatoo always has a personal significance, after that you get addicted and end up with a lot of stuff you just find cool.

Nice. I am a fan of tattoos as long as they aren’t obscene and they’re in an area that can be covered up easily by clothing.

Also, what do you mean by “miles I’ve travelled on a ship”?

I think you mean nautical swallows! Although those particular birds do look a bit like sparrows.

nautical sparrows (or swallows, whatever)signify 10,000 nautical miles over the ocean, I’m not sure if it was 5,000 each or 10,000 each, but I’m WELL over 30,000 nautical miles at this point.

I’ve seen shoulders (obviously, my favorite as well) back of the shoulders, stomach (my friend got hers there last night), between the thumb and index finger, and the tops of the feet (normally pigs and chickens for sailors, but the guy i saw who had that did a themed “sleeve” that had nautical stars, pigs, chickens, sparrows, and some other sailor jerry American traditional stuff, looked bitchin.

I’m wanting all of mine to have some sort of significance, but i really like the trash polka style as well...

my body in 50 years will not be something people want to look at regardless of tattoos.

Yeah, there is a larger tattoo I want on my rear shoulders. I have though of incorporating them into that.

I’m thinking of doing a “trash polka” style one with a coilover on my calf for my next one.
